Fact v/s Fiction: Eating Fats

It is said that consuming fats is not good for health. But not always! Fats are essential for the proper functioning of the body but due to its fattening nature, there are a lot of myths revolve around eating fats. Today we burst some of the misleading fiction that goes around with the name of fats which further disturb your overall health and well-being.

Overconsumption of fatty foods can give you a problem but a heap of out-dated information on eating fat can actually make you sick by not consuming the correct proportions of it. So, read on to know the facts and ensure yourself to consume the correct quantities of fats.

Here are some of the common myths we’ve busted.

  • Fiction 1: All fats are unhealthy

This is one of the most common myth people blindly follow these days. Not all fats are unhealthy and your body needs good fats to function properly. The word “fat” might scare you and give you negative vibes about your health but fats are important! There are two types of fats (trans fats and saturated fats) which are known as unhealthy and can raise your cholesterol levels, increase the risk of heart diseases while giving you major other diseases as well. Unsaturated fats are really important for the body and it can give you several benefits when consumed in moderation. Unsaturated fats (PUFA, MUFA) can improve your heart health, reduce inflammation, boost memory, and even encourage healthy pregnancies.

  • Fiction 2: A low-fat diet is the correct way to lose weight

Various people believe that a low-fat diet helps in losing weight and that’s the way they start to remove fatty foods from their diet which further can cause inflammations in the body especially in the knees. While avoiding Trans fats is one of the great ways to lose weight, similarly adding good fats is extremely essential for the body. The best weight-loss approach is balancing your diet with proper nutrients and snacking on good fat foods like nuts, seeds and many others.

  • Fiction 3: Our body don’t need any fat

This myth is almost followed by all of you. Fat is a crucial component of a balanced diet. Yes, you have to limit your intake of bad fats while you should add food sources of good fats in your diet. Good fats are extremely important to carry out necessary functions in the human body. Fats offer energy to your body and they allow regulating the temperature, hormones, immune system and reproduction properly.
