Flaxseeds Dry Chutney

Dry chutney powders are a traditional South Indian delicacy. It is usually made with dals but this recipe has been tweaked to include flaxseeds making it healthier.

Flaxseeds: Flaxseeds contain lignans and they have antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help to prevent disease by neutralizing free radicals from the body. Flaxseeds also contain omega-3 fatty acids. These have been shown to improve heart health by reducing the LDL cholesterol levels and inflammation in the body. Flaxseeds are also a good source of insoluble fiber. Therefore, they help in relieving constipation.
Ingredients
- 15 grams Flaxseeds
- 1 whole dry red chili
- 2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste

Method
- Put the flaxseeds in a non-stick pan and dry roast on a medium flame for 2 minutes while stirring occasionally. Keep the roasted flaxseeds aside.
- In the same pan, dry roast the kashmiri red chili while tossing occasionally. Keep the roasted chili aside.
- In the same pan, dry roast the cumin seeds for 1 minute, while stirring occasionally.
- Combine all the ingredients with salt in a blender and blend till coarse. Do not use water.
- Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. Use as required.

Use this delicious flaxseeds dry chutney as an accompaniment for idlis, and dosas, or you can sprinkle some of it over uttapams to give a tongue-tickling flavor.
