Guru Purnima marks as one of the most pious days in the Hindu calendar. This day is another reminder to show respect and gratitude to our gurus and teachers who have taught and guided us through every phase of our lives. Our teachers have given so much to us. They strive to make us better human beings in all aspects of life. We as students owe a lot to our gurus and teachers. Each year, this day is celebrated on a full moon day (Purnima) in the month of Ashadha.
Our holy books have glorified the presence of gurus in the lives of people. In the ancient days, gurus were honored and their words held an immense control over the people. These gurus were praised and fed as a sign of respect. In India, this day is celebrated by offering prayers to our gurus who have enlightened and disciplined us. Guru Purnima is a day to celebrate your teachers to show your regards and admiration towards them. In ashramas and temples, students recite prayers for their gurus. They fast the entire day and end their fast after an evening pooja. On this day, traditional dishes and sweets such as halwa, laddoo, and khichdi are made.

- Sheera: This is a traditional sweet dish that is widely loved in our country. It is very easy to cook at home and tastes delicious when served hot. You can even add nuts such as cashews, almonds, and raisins to enhance the taste of the sheera. The sheera tastes better when cooked at low heat. Cook the ingredients till the sheera turn brownish golden in color.
- Boondi Laddoo: Laddoo is one of the most popular delicacies. It is a traditional offering that has made its place in all Indian festivals and ceremonies. You can offer a box of freshly made boondi laddoo to your teachers and gurus. A tip to make your laddoo tastier is to add a good amount of ghee in the batter.
- Kheer: Kheer is an Indian dessert cooked in almost every house. Cooking kheer requires a lot of patience and attention. Cooking kheer with full cream milk gives it a better taste and texture. Adding saffron, cardamom, and dry fruits to the kheer can enrich its flavor. Let the milk boil until it starts thickening into a creamy texture. You can serve it hot as well as cold.
