Here’s How to Prepare Your Body for Natural Birth

Giving birth to a child can be cathartic. Many studies have shown that people who aim for natural childbirth, education and preparation greatly increases the possibility of having a natural birth with no necessary intervention. Birth can be unforeseeable, so there are things that every mum should keep in mind before giving birth to a baby. Our only goal is to transmute and empower the experience that informs and shapes the beginning of your parenting journey. Here we have listed five things that you can do to prepare your body for a natural birth.

  • Prepare yourself physically
  • Preparing your body for natural birth is just as vital as preparing your mind. Your body will go through some drastic changes as it grows a placenta, a baby, adds fluid, and gear up for future breastfeeding. We suggest you eat a high protein meal which includes plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Don’t forget to drink ample amounts of water and say no to refined foods like chemical sweeteners, packaged foods, white flours and sugar.

  • Say yes to exercises
  • There’s a myth that exercise in pregnancy can control weight but that’s not true. Exercise is about mental well-being and inclining your body for birth. Giving birth is kind of like a long run for most women, so exercising regularly can really be helpful. Try walking, swimming, squats and prenatal yoga. You can also take up prenatal classes with your partner and practice positioning and massage techniques at home.

  • Prepare your mind
  • Preparing your soul and mind for natural birth is as important as doing squats. A night of good sleep can help you feel relaxed as your due date approaches. There are plenty of audio programs, meditation for pregnancy, books and podcasts, hypo-birthing classes to help you learn and feel comfortable during pregnancy. Meditation prepares your mind and deeply relaxes your body during an intense time. So lay your soul by filling the heart with positive energy and being careful with the negative ones.

  • Prepare your team
  • Your support plays a big role during labour so make sure you have a good support team. Invite close friends and family to support you. You can always have a meeting with your team to make sure they understand how they can and should support you at your difficult times. Appoint them with specific jobs, talk about the logistics, and ask them to keep a check on you like, “remind me to breathe” and “make sure I’m drinking water“.

  • Prepare your bags
  • Pack your bags! If you are planning a homebirth, stock up your fridge and prepare your space. Bring your food, music, drinks, and anything that makes your labour and postpartum experience pleasant for you. Make a soothing playlist. Have a dance party to get things moving, think about what you may want to snack on or sip on and make sure you have all the options available whenever you want to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Over to you:
Giving birth is a wonderful experience, so plan your precious day by preparing both your body and mind beforehand for the empowering, transformative and natural childbirth.
