For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (150 grams) cooked chickpeas (canned or boiled)
- 2 tablespoons tamarind paste (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion (about 100 grams), finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 green chili, finely chopped (adjust to spice preference)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional, for heat)
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water (as needed)
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Procedure:
- In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Sprinkle in the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt. Stir well to combine and cook for another minute.
- Add the cooked chickpeas to the pan, mixing them with the spices and aromatics.
- Pour in the tamarind paste and add water as needed to create a desired consistency. Stir to coat the chickpeas evenly.
- Let the mixture simmer for about 5-10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Adjust the consistency by adding more water if necessary.
- Once cooked, taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side, which adds a refreshing zing to the dish.
