Earlier, the drugs regulator of the country DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) approved an anti-covid oral drug (2-DG) developed by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) for the emergency treatment of moderate to severe patients of coronavirus.
A green go has been waved to 2-DG in the hospitals by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh and health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. The first batch of 2-DG was launched in India and was handed over to Delhi All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Randeep Guleria at an event.
“DCGI has already granted permission for emergency use of therapeutic application of drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) as an adjunct therapy in moderate to severe COVID-19 patients earlier this month. 2-DG can be used in treating emergency Covid cases and can reduce the time of recovery and oxygen dependency.
The Health Minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the DRDO has played an important role in the fight against Covid-19. “Not just for India but I hope it serves in the fight against Covid, globally in the coming days. I thank and congratulate DRDO and its scientists,” he added. They further said that the introduction of this drug will resolve the issue of oxygen and improve the condition of hospitals and help in fighting the crisis. We will keep trying hard and will definitely find success in fighting against Covid-19. The medicine issue is also solved now.
In the second wave of the COVID pandemic, a large number of patients are experiencing low oxygen. The drug will assist in the treatment of Covid-19 patients who have severe symptoms. The drug works by accumulating in the affected virus cells and breaks the development of the virus. The acute shortage of medical beds, oxygen and medicines will get solved as the drug reduces the oxygen supplementation by escalating the recovery process of the patients.
