Nutrition in the Age of Change in Season

Change in season and nutrition are closely interrelated; any changes in the season can directly affect the availability of food and nutritional needs. The changing seasons provide a good opportunity to make changes to our eating habits. Hence, eating right in terms of the seasons is what nature demands. In the end, everything depends on our eating pattern in different seasons as our energy, and wellness. One should not give up on our intake of carbs, proteins and fat all year around. Perhaps, they should be eaten in specific ratios at different times of the year.

Perhaps, there are plenty of reasons why people should eat right and healthy during seasonal change. Not only does changing your diet to suit the trends of the season open your taste buds up to new experiences, but it also ensures getting the proper nourishment to the body.

As the seasons change our body craves for immunity boosting and nourishing foods. Getting the right vitamins, minerals and nutrition is important, hence, let’s bring along a few tips for sticking to a healthy diet as we move into a new season.

  • Seasonal eating with a well-balanced diet – Proper nutrition and a well-balanced diet is important throughout the year, but consider switching things up by cooking with locally-grown seasonal foods is important. Because, foods that are grown and consumed during their appropriate seasons are more nutritionally dense making us feel better and energized.
  • Make Fibre your better half – Fibre-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans can also lower your cholesterol and boost digestion. Plus, fibre makes you feel fuller longer, which is great for keeping off extra pounds.
  • Soup up your seasonal vegetables – There’s nothing quite like a steamy bowl of soup loaded with vegetables. Make a homemade soup filled with herbs, spices, and seasonal veggies to support good nutrition and keep you fuller for longer. Plus, it’ll make you feel happy and satisfied.
  • Don’t deprive yourself from Protein – Proteins are the building blocks of the body. For a person, about 12-20% of daily calories should come from proteins, so include protein rich foods such as chicken, eggs, pulses and legumes, yogurt, almonds etc. to get the sufficient amounts of proteins.
  • Include the Versatile Vitamin C – Vitamin C is a versatile nutrient that helps you stay healthy during the change of season. Vitamin C rich foods like lemon, orange, sweet lime, kiwi, and bananas, avocado, broccoli, asparagus support the immune system, circulatory problems and skin conditions like eczema. It also reduces inflammation and boosts production of collagen.
  • Get the “nutty” morning touch – Get the right dose of dates, apricots, groundnuts, almonds, pine nuts, and others regularly for a healthier life during seasonal changes. Rich in Omega-3, zinc and magnesium helps to boost the immunity and also enables absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K.

Over to you:

With a seasonal transition and concurring to healthy habits can help with the right nutritional requirements. Proceeding little steps to be educated on the purpose and benefits of seasonal eating can be a great starting point.
