Diwali, the festival of lights, is deeply connected with the religious and spiritual sentiments of people all over India. People eagerly wait to celebrate Diwali and wish to make the most of the day for the prosperity of the home, health, wealth, and happiness of loved ones.
Today, Post-Diwali people often complain about bloated stomach, acidity, or constipation after the festivities, because the weak digestive system and poor body metabolism cannot manage the excess intake of sweets and deep-fried food. Such situations can be avoided by controlling what you eat, how well you sleep, and other healthy lifestyle modifications. Here are 7 do’s and don’ts you can stick by post-Diwali to detox your body well:
The Do’s:
- Start your day light: Early morning tea/coffee is quite common among individuals but one should start the post-Diwali morning with light drinks like lukewarm lemon water or green tea to avoid acidity caused by caffeine consumption on an empty stomach. This will soothe your stomach and help to detox faster.
- Increase your fibre intake: Fibre is a natural detoxifying agent that will help in regulating your bowel movement so add a lot of fibre to your diet, post-Diwali. You can add fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, sprouts, and salads to increase fibre in your diet.
- Hydrate yourself well: Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water every day to keep your body fully hydrated and so there is adequate fluid in the body to flush out the toxins through urine and sweat that has been accumulated in the body by eating fried food, sweets, and highly processed foods during Diwali festivities. You can also try detoxing drinks like cucumber mint detox drink, aam panna, and detox haldi tea.
- A good amount of sleep: Sleeping for at least 8 hours a day is extremely vital to recharge your mind and body. After those late night parties and get-togethers, your sleep cycle must be disturbed. It is important to detox your body and rejuvenate your mind with proper sleep post-Diwali.
- Keep yourself active: You must have lost track on your workout regime but it’s high time to get active again. Start slowly and increase your pace gradually. Yoga practice or light workouts like slow beginner dance sessions can be included initially.
The Don’ts
- Limit sugar consumption: Do not burden your body with excessive sweets post-Diwali like bakery items, artificial sugars, and colas, and give your body time to recover from Diwali delicacies. Instead consume fruits as they have natural sugars and are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
- Avoid processed foods: Processed foods are filled with fats, sugar, hydrogenated oils, salt, and a large amount of calories. These must be the last things you would want after your fried Diwali foods. Processed foods are a complete no-no not just to detoxify your body post-Diwali but also to avoid weight gain post-Diwali indulgences.
Over to you:
Post-Diwali it’s time to relax your body by making wiser health choices. And not to forget, exercising and proper sleep is also a great way to rejuvenate your body and mind. So, go ahead and indulge in these tips and get your health routine back on track.
