Add these Drinks in Your Routine to Combat the Effects of Pollution

Nowadays, when you are outdoors, it is imperative to protect yourself from the adverse effects of pollution as it is so widespread. Through air, water, and land, pollution directly interacts with our bodies often leading to unwanted complications on prolonged exposure. The air quality index of most cities in our country is miserable, and for good lung health, it is necessary to always remain protected. Wearing a pollution filter mask to avoid the pollutants in the air, avoiding drinking water from open sources, avoiding consumption of foods of unknown origin due to traces of pesticide and insecticide on them are now routine methods to avoid getting affected by pollutants. It is not necessary that only external protection and avoidance will protect you from pollution, hence to boost your immune system and combat pollution, here are some drinks that will help –
- Green Smoothie – Including items such as broccoli, spinach, and kale with either water or dairy, this drink is very helpful to combat pollution’s effects. It helps you secrete harmful toxins, keeps your liver healthy, maintains the health of your lungs, and even helps you manage your stress.
- Citrus smoothie – Vitamin C-rich citrus group which includes oranges, grapefruits, lemons, tangerines, and limes is readily available and makes up the most common lemonades and sodas. These drinks are easy to make and nutritious. They are also useful to help against pollution as they help you build your immune system, make you less susceptible to allergies, reduce irritation and inflammation of your skin. Drinking a blend of different sweet and tangy citrus fruits every day will also aid in not getting tired of the same flavor every day.
- Turmeric and ginger drink – Ginger and turmeric are very effective in preventing cough and cold. They help keep our bodies warm, fit, and healthy. They can be added to water or tea to make a refreshing detox drink. They contain antioxidant properties which help maintain good heart and lung health. In our country these are often added to milk and served as they are said to have anticancer agents, they can also be added to gargle water.
- Licorice or Mulethi tea – It is observed that licorice tea has anti-viral and anti-bacterial functions which are very helpful in detoxifying our body of pollutants.
- Apple juice with gooseberry – This drink will help you with better functioning of lungs, better lung capacity, and reduces wheezing due to flavonoids present in it. Gooseberry rich in vitamin C will prevent inflammation and congestion in our lungs.
- Banana smoothie – A smoothie rich in sugars but also helpful to combat pollution. For healthier alternatives, milk can be replaced with no sugar soy milk or almond milk. This will be helpful to individuals with shortness of breath and congested airways in their lungs.
