Lettuce Wraps

Lettuce Wraps are light, refreshing, and full of flavor. These wraps feature tender chicken or tofu, crisp vegetables, and a savory sauce, all bundled into crunchy lettuce leaves, making them a perfect low-carb, healthy meal or appetizer.

For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 8 large lettuce leaves (Romaine or iceberg)
  • 200 grams chicken breast or tofu, diced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (50 grams)
  • 1 carrot, julienned (50 grams)
  • 1 small bell pepper, julienned (50 grams)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or sesame oil
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Procedure:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions, minced garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the diced chicken or tofu to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through. Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, chili flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir well to coat everything.
  3. Add the julienned carrots and bell peppers to the pan. Sauté for another 2-3 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
  4. Lay out the lettuce leaves and spoon the cooked filling into the center of each leaf.
  5. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately, wrapping the lettuce around the filling to eat.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Lettuce wraps are a healthy, nutrient-dense option that’s low in carbs and calories. Lettuce provides a crisp, hydrating base that’s rich in vitamins A and K, essential for vision and bone health. Chicken breast is a lean protein that supports muscle maintenance and repair, while tofu offers a plant-based protein alternative with added calcium and iron.
  • The fresh vegetables, including carrots and bell peppers, provide a variety of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins to boost overall health. The use of soy sauce and hoisin adds flavor without excess fat, while garlic and ginger offer immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties.
