It is of paramount importance to keep up with change and hence it is necessary to keep heart diseases at bay & maintain a healthy living. There are many instances that might raise the flag of developing an unhealthy heart which require a lifestyle change to maintain those changes for a lifetime. Some might achieve some respite following their newly set exercise pattern, diet and termination of unhealthy habits but these drastic changes may not always succeed. So to remedy such situations it is imperative to improve your heart’s health starting with small steps.
- Shifting from less to a more active lifestyle – To become healthy and then to maintain it, it is most important to have regular physical activity in which your whole body is utilised. It can be of low intensity starting with basic aerobic exercises and stretching. An active lifestyle also helps in keeping stress to a minimum helping the body by not dampening the hormonal cycle. Active lifestyle brings with it numerous benefits such as weight control, decreased risk of diseases, improving the body’s state including fat & sugar levels, improved sleep and overall increased ability to work.
- To lose excess body fat – The body fat has a direct relation with the heart as the risk for plaque deposition in our arteries increases that lead to a heart attack. It is also linked with high blood pressure, diabetes and bad cholesterol levels. The optimal way to shed fat is through exercise and a healthy diet abstaining from high-calorie foods.
- Quitting alcohol and tobacco – Alcohol directly affects the liver increasing the fat levels in our body whereas tobacco affects the entire respiratory pathway and reduces blood oxygen levels which lead to tissues not working properly including heart muscles. It’s difficult to let go of addiction which requires a lot of care from professionals.
- Stress less – Life always does not go on smoothly and so exerts an intangible pressure on us, namely stress. It also affects blood pressure and increased heart attack chances. However, this is something within our control and can be managed. Good sleep and positive social relations can help cope with it. Lifestyle-based changes to handle stress are the best option which includes a healthy diet and abstaining from anything that harms your body.
- Actively maintaining the healthy blood pressure of 120/80 – Blood pressure has direct relations with heart attack, stroke, heart failures, kidney failure, dementia, and impotence in males. Guidelines to maintain healthy blood pressure are eating a diet mainly consisting of fruits and vegetables, controlled portions of calorie foods, limited sodium intake, no alcohol and tobacco and daily exercise.
- Good habits – Frequently washing hands, eating nutritious food, other daily habits like exercise, waking up early and sleeping on time keeps the heart healthy.
- To actively seek out professional healthcare – After reaching 40 there is a general decline in body health and keeping in frequent contact and check under professionals can keep any unwanted dangers away.
