The literal meaning of Maha Shivratri is “The Great Night of Shiva,” this festival is a sacred festival for many of the devotees of Lord Shiva that observe fasts throughout the day. Shivratri is the biggest, most important festival of the year, especially for Shiva devotees. On this day, devotees take a dip in the holy Ganges, bathe the shiva lingam in milk, and visit the Shiva temple, and chant prayers and sing in the praise for the Lord.
