Jowar Masala Bhat

Jowar Masala Bhat is a nutritious and flavorful dish made with jowar (sorghum) and mixed vegetables, spiced with garam masala and turmeric. It’s low in oil, sugar-free, and packed with fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, making it a healthy choice for a balanced meal.
For a Serving Size of Two:
Ingredients:
- 80 grams jowar (sorghum), soaked overnight
- 100 grams mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, capsicum)
- 50 grams onion, finely chopped
- 60 grams tomato, chopped
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp oil for cooking
- Fresh coriander for garnish
Procedure:
- Drain the soaked jowar and pressure cook with 1.5 cups of water for 5-6 whistles until soft.
- In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil, add mustard and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
- Add onions, green chili, and sauté until soft. Add tomatoes and cook until mushy.
- Mix in the turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir in the mixed vegetables and cook until tender.
- Add the cooked jowar and mix everything well. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve hot.
