Kothamalli Sadam (Coriander Rice)

Kothamalli Sadam, or Coriander Rice, is a vibrant and aromatic South Indian dish that showcases the fresh flavor of coriander. This quick and easy recipe combines cooked rice with sautéed vegetables and spices, creating a nutritious meal perfect for lunch or dinner. For a Serving Size of Two:

Ingredients:

  • 150 grams cooked rice (preferably brown rice)
  • 50 grams fresh coriander leaves
  • 30 grams finely chopped onion
  • 30 grams finely chopped tomato
  • 2 – 3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste

Procedure:

  1. In a pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add the finely chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies, cooking for another minute.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes and turmeric powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  4. Add the cooked rice and gently mix until well combined. Stir in the chopped coriander leaves and lemon juice, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, ensuring everything is heated through.
  5. Season with salt to taste and serve hot.
