This dish is mostly cooked by labourers on wooden and charcoal fire and was hardly ever a gourmet blend in the state. Here have a look at a few lesser known, but conspicuously delicious must try dishes from the state which will surely leave you craving for more!

  • Litti-Chokha: This Bihari cuisine has alone paved its way somewhere in the global food map. Litti is a spicy roasted gram powder dumpling to which spices are added and chokha is roasted potato and brinjal mash with a lot of added coriander and garlic.
  • Khaja: This layered sweet is a must have preparation during weddings and is pure delight. If you want to try this tasty treat there’s a place called Silav in Bihar that makes the most delicious Khajas of a time.
  • Sattu Drink: This drink is made up of roasted gram powder, rock salt, water, and roasted cumin, it is as healthy and tasty as it sounds. For most people it is a breakfast on the go drink and one must try this.
  • Pitha: Made with dal and rice or coconut and rice or rice cooked in milk, pitha is a traditional Bihari preparation made during special occasions and sometimes even as an indulgent afternoon dish.
  • Malpua: Unlike the regular malpua, this traditional Bihari malpua has bananas in it. But it is also made up of sans bananas which is loaded with khoya and paneer, and is dipped in cardamom sugar syrup. Slurp!
  • Ghugni: This delicious dish is made with soaked black chickpeas, is considered as a mouth-watering preparation relished with chrwa, puffed rice, poori or paratha.
