Keeping yourself fit and active in the world full of mythologies is quite tough and challenging. Google told you something while health articles told you something and what to believe is quite difficult and in between this our health suffers a lot. Health myths have become common nowadays which can further give you various problems and make you suffer from endless diseases.
Today we debunk some of the old school tales that have been going on from centuries and are affecting the health like nothing else. So, give a quick read to these tremendously common but absolutely vague health myths and make yourself hale and hearty.
Myth- consumption of cashews can give a spike in cholesterol levels
Fact- Due to the content of carbohydrates and fats cashews contain, people, have been living in this fantasy that cashew consumption can increase the levels of cholesterol. Cashews do have saturated fat but most of it is produced from stearic acid (a type of fatty acid that has a neutral effect on blood cholesterol). Moreover, cashews are filled with various vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that have heart-healthy properties and aid in weight management. All you have to do is just keep an eye on its consumption to ensure you get all the benefits without any loss.
Myth- Everyone needs 8 hours of sleep
Fact- The whole internet is flooded with misinformation of 8 hours of sleep. Various researches said that however 8 hours of sleep is considered as the standard time of sleep but this time is average and can change as per the requirement. Many people need 7 to 9 hours. Some can work by taking only 5 hours of sleep while others need as many as 10.
Myth- Green tea can “melt” unnecessary fat
Fact- Most people think that consuming green tea can do magic to the fat. However, green tea cannot miraculously melt the fat. It gives you body a great number of antioxidants which is good for boosting overall health. Consuming green tea can give a great boost to your metabolism while making you healthy but there are no pieces of evidence of it showing magic on instant weight loss.
Myth- Doing lots of sit-ups will make your stomach flat
Fact- Sit-ups cannot do any instant wonders on your stomach fat. Stomach fat is hard to lose and if you are planning to lose fat only from a targeted spot, you need to focus on losing overall body fat as the cells of fat are scattered all over the body.
