Here’s How You Can Effectively Cut Down Your Screen Time

The Covid-19 lockdown has kept us inside our homes, our smartphones, laptops, tablets have found renewed importance in our lives. While we need our screens to hold onto a little bit of normalcy, the fact remains: excessive screen time comes with its perils. Too much screen time is also said to increase the chances of diseases like obesity, diabetes, sleep problems.

Problems with too much screen time and how to reduce it.
An elevated amount of screen time means a prolonged period of inactivity. This prolonged period of inactivity results in problems like obesity, diabetes, sleep problems, and lack of attention. Relaxing and watching your favourite shows or even occasionally binge-watching your most anticipated Web series is not a threat to your health, however, problems start to arise when we become lazy and make this a habit.

To help you overcome this toxic habit you may practice the following tips.
Keep track of how much time you are spending on your phone. Keeping track of your screen time is easy. There are a host of third-party apps on the App Store (for iPhone users) and Play Store (for Android users) that let users keep track of screen time with a breakdown of how much time you are spending on individual apps.

Don’t take your phone in the bathroom. next time you enter the bathroom, leave your phone outside, and maybe take that magazine or book that you have not read yet.

Take part in activities that involve the entire family. people are more likely to spend a lot more time behind screens when there’s nothing much else to do, which is precisely what’s happening during the lockdown. You can indulge your family in doing lots of activities such as gardening, cooking, or even doing yoga together.

Create screen-free zones. Make places in your house where it is understood to not take your phone or any other digital screen you might get addicted to. Make the dining table a screen-free zone or even your bedroom with your partner, bathrooms should also be a screen-free zone.

Uninstall the apps (for an hour or two every day) that you use the most. Yes, it seems irritating, but if you look at it from a rational perspective, it is a good idea. Because not only will you be irritated by the fact that you have to download it again, your body will prevent you from doing so eventually thus getting rid of that unhealthy habit.
