Pregnancy is bound to body changes, from hormonal side effects to weight gain and stretch marks. For some women, this can be a time of joy and wonderment, for others, it may be a time for enduring distress and bizarre bodily symptoms. Maintaining a healthy and positive body image can be really challenging, especially when you by chance face a super-fit pregnant woman. Don’t constantly pressurize yourself to bounce back to your pre-baby size as soon as you deliver your baby.
Here are some basic tips that will help you get through the times when your body is experiencing drastic changes during pregnancy:
- Remember that weight gain is normal
- Exercise daily.
- Eat a healthy diet.
- Practice meditation.
- Wear clothes that are comfortable.
- Stop comparing.
Gaining weight and watching yourself change isn’t always easy and can be scary for some pregnant women. Women face body image issues and pregnancy can make it more complex. You may look at your expanding tummy, thicker ankles and spreading thighs constantly in the mirror but that is normal. Another way of developing a positive body image throughout your pregnancy is to have tender exercise every day. It can be a 20-minute walk, some yoga asana, home exercises like squats, indoor cycling, and so forth. You can also take up swimming classes. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to have mental and physical wellbeing. Plus, the fitter and active you are, the better equipped you will be for your labour.
Being a health-conscious person, eating rightly and healthily during pregnancy is a no-brainer. Remember that being pregnant means taking extra care of yourself, so give up on junk food and your everyday excuses that you are eating for two and stop binge eating foods.
The best way to avoid negative thoughts is by doing guided meditation and using breathing techniques to calm your mind and body. Take your time to relax the body during the prenatal month and practice as much as possible, this will help you prepare for the life a baby brings along with him.
Always wear loose and comfortable clothes that fit in your pregnant form. The more relaxed you are, the less you will worry about how you look. There are already several other discomforts that you might be dealing related to pregnancy so don’t make clothes another one. Buy maternity clothes and nursing bras beforehand. Wear flip flops for more comforts as your feet might get bigger from carrying extra weight, and may get swell.
Don’t compare to other pregnant women. This is a body image standard that everybody should follow at all times. Everyone is different. Every pregnant body is different. Your body will carry your child exactly the way it needs to. So your body knows what it’s doing
