6 Ways To Help Your Child With ADHD

ADHD is a psychological disorder that affects a child’s behaviour, making it difficult for him/her to focus or be attentive. It develops in the early years of childhood and is persistent till adulthood. Symptoms include impulsivity, hyperactivity, lack of focus, repetitive behaviour, anxiety, mood swings, aggression, etc. Treatment and classroom interventions can help the child study better and have a better life but there is no cure for this neurological condition.

Here Are Some Ways To Help Your Child With ADHD:

  1. Have An Optimistic Attitude– your outlook towards their behaviour or their disability also shapes their attitude. Talk positive, have self-encouraging conversations with your child, and teach them to know their worth and potential. You can also Motivate them by rewarding their smallest achievements.
  2. Develop A Routine- ADHD can make it more complex for the child to manage their time, and devote equal time to study, and well-being. So, help them develop a routine and follow the same schedule every day, making them habitual of doing things independently. A sleep schedule can help them get enough rest and function properly the next day, otherwise, lack of sleep can make them more impulsive.
  3. Remove Distractions- a child with ADHD might find it difficult to concentrate or sit calmly when there are distractions around. T.V., computers, video games, or any other gadget can potentially distribute the child’s focus. Also, these distractions can lower the kid’s energy and make them irritable.
  4. Indulge Them In Activities- channelising their energy into something interesting can make them less impulsive throughout the day. Activities like drawing, playing, outdoor and indoor games, exercising, practising hobbies, etc will ensure that the child has put their energy to good use.
  5. Organise Their Study Space- ‘a cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind.’ And makes the child more hyperactive and distracted. Keep their study space organised so they can easily concentrate and have a calmer mind. This will also reduce their impulsivity and increase focus.
  6. Fill Yourself With Knowledge- for you to handle a child with ADHD, it is essential that you fill yourself with optimal knowledge about this disorder, its symptoms, treatment, and interventions. Talk to the teachers, counsellors, and doctors, and gather enough information to help your child lead a successful life.

Over To You:

The child will look up to you in all ways, and you can be the biggest support to them. Follow these ways to give them a better lifestyle and outlook on life.
