But, for those who like to read or keep a note of the expert’s opinion, we bring the entire excerpt of the session so that you don’t miss out on anything. Here are the points that were covered in the live session:
What is image and why is yours important?
Have you ever really thought of your image, your persona, your personality to be something like an asset in your life? Well, if the answer is no, not really. Then think about it. You are one of the most valuable assets of yourself.
Image is you in the eyes of people. It’s a mental picture that others create of you. But, first, it’s really what you think about yourself too. Image is all about talking to ourselves about ourselves. Self-image is the vital ingredient into self-confidence and that will lead up to self-esteem boosting. Everything is interlinked and interdependent on one another.
What does managing your image really mean?
Image Management is creating an authentic, appropriate, attractive, and affordable personal and/or professional Image which increases your confidence, credibility, capability and productivity. Self-image starts from outer shells but also incorporate inner shells which are your life skills and attitude. Your image is an inside-out process wherein your entire image needs to be managed well from your appearance to your attitude skill-set. So, this is the meaning of the holistic image management process.
What components make your image?
- Clothing
- Body language
- Communication
Your image is the most important in situations
- With people who don’t know you
- When the opinion of others is important to the achievement of your goals
- When you need an edge
So, image management is about taking your best abilities and moving your weaknesses into your work upon and enhancing you into a whole new individual.
The way you look (appearance) affects the way you think then affect the way you feel and that tells how you act and behave and then tells you how others see and react to you.
4 steps to work on your image
- To be appropriate
Looking like you belong, appropriate to your role, goal and occasion; nothing about your appearance is distracting.
- To be authentic to who you are
Looking like yourself, the way you want to be seen and feel; consistent with your value, attitude; comfortable for the body and psyche.
- To be attractive
Looking at you is a pleasant experience, in good quality and condition; fit and flatter your figure; harmonious and coordinated.
- To make it affordable
Looking like you are having fun with fashion; investment is within the budget.
Footnote
Self-image is linked with enhancing your confidence and self-esteem. Working on it by truly understanding each and every aspect of it can help you in becoming a better version of yourself. Ask yourself a question: How you present yourself reflects your state of mind. What are you showcasing? Stick to your authenticity and don’t to try to fit in because you are born to stand out. Take inspiration from others but always stick to whatever suits you.
