Food is fascinating, not just in its taste but also when it comes to facts! The most interesting fact is you cannot just cook and eat food but you can actually use food to make face masks and apply it on your face, decorate salads and the best part is food can actually help you cheer someone if they are having a bad day. What more could you ask for!
- Guess the nut was disowned by the nuts community – Peanuts! It has “nuts” in its name, but is actually a legume. March is National Peanut Month and peanut butter was originally made for people with no teeth. There exists six cities in the U.S. named Peanut.
- Vegetables always knew to adjust happily! – Botanically tomato is a fruit but was categorized as a vegetable after a legal battle in US Supreme Court in 1893. Tomatoes are the world’s most popular fruit. Tomato juice is the ‘State Drink ‘ of the state of Ohio and tomato is declared as the State fruit.
- Cheese, the most stolen food in the world! – If cheese love has been a crime then humans are the ones to be trapped in a mousetrap! The cheese was created almost 4,000 years ago by accident. American cheesemakers construct their own cheese caves to store cheese in them.
- What a potato can do except offering nutrients? – Wi-Fi signals! Potatoes can absorb and imitate Wi-Fi signals. The word ‘potato’ is derived from the Spanish word ‘patata’. It is grown in 50 states of the USA with the largest producer being Washington and Idaho. Potato chips are the world’s most common snack food.
- Heard of an accident turned out to be an experiment? – Teabags were originally sent as samples in a silk cloth! Darjeeling is known as ‘Champagne of teas’ and is highly prized. Real ‘Darjeeling’ tea is grown in an area of India at the foot of the Himalayas that are less than 70 square miles large.
- Plums, pears and cherries are siblings of rose flower – Cherries, plums and pears belong to the same botanical family! Roses are old plants and one of the oldest fossils of roses discovered in Colorado dates back from 35 million years ago.
- Ever heard of madness caused by eggplants? – Eggplants were once known as “mad apples” in Italy as people believed eating them in excess can lead to madness. The eggplant, also known as aubergine originally comes from Myanmar and it contains nicotine but just 0.01%.
