The Role of Immunization in benefiting Human Health

Immunization is a procedure of protecting oneself against serious diseases. Our bodies can fight off these dreadful diseases better after getting immunized if we come into close contact with them.

Our body’s immune system protects us against several infections by triggering reactions that neutralize the harmful microbes and prevent the infection. But it is unable to fight certain critical diseases. That is why vaccinations play a hugely important role, as they help the immune system to create antibodies that protect the body from diseases.

Now, let us discuss the role of immunization in benefiting your health:

  • Effective protection from dangerous diseases and better human health: Vaccines help in building our body’s natural immunity to diseases and prevent us from falling sick. One can be protected from infections in the most effective way through a vaccination. Vaccinations are recommended throughout our lives including those to prevent life-threatening diseases like influenza, and hepatitis B.
  • Increases life expectancy rate: Immunization has greatly influenced the life expectancy rate over the years. Some serious diseases like polio, tetanus, etc are preventable, saving people from the painful process of treatment and also huge medical bills. It is important to get vaccinated at the earliest and prevent contracting such diseases. Protection against several diseases also increases the life expectancy of the population.
  • Reduces the risk of complications: Even if a vaccinated individual gets sick, the risk of complications is lower. For example, when flu-vaccinated people get the flu they will often see less severe symptoms, decreasing the risk of hospitalization and death associated with the flu.
  • Creates herd Immunity: Vaccination helps in protecting even those people that do not get any infection. If many people in a community are vaccinated, even people who can’t get vaccinated will be protected. This is called herd immunity, and it’s just as important for disease prevention as individual immunity.
  • Increases the Effectiveness of other medications: Vaccines can protect the effectiveness of other disease-fighting medications like antibiotics and antiviral. When a vaccine stops the start of a disease, there is little need for these treatment procedures.
  • Protect Individuals, Families, and Communities: Did you know that when you get vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself, but you are also protecting your family and your community from contagious and dangerous diseases? Yes! So do not wait any longer if you still need to get immunized and save lives.

Footnote:

A little bit of prevention is better than cure. Vaccines not only provide economic benefits but they give an individual a healthier life. Thus, immunization stands commendable in warding off infectious diseases and bringing down death rates.
