Tuberculosis is a serious condition that is caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. While the duration of medication is for the long term, you can feel better by feeding your body with the right nourishment in the form of fresh vegetables, fruits, and more.
It’s a cycle of poor nutrition that may cause tuberculosis and worsen the condition too! A decreased immunity cannot handle health problems. So, to keep your body strong, nutrient intake is necessary irrespective of any physiological condition.

A variety in a plate will help in boosting immunity. Make sure that you are adding items from each food group containing specific components that promote immunity, like:
- 1 Dark colored and leafy greens like kale and spinach are known for their high iron and vitamin content
- 2. Whole grains such as whole wheat, pasta, bread, and cereals.
- 3. Make a rainbow platter from antioxidant rich brightly colored vegetables and fruits such as berries, tomatoes & cherries. They contain vitamin A, C, and E which averts free radicals and boost immunity.
- 4. Include protein as it does have a high biological value, repairs damaged tissues and initiates fast recovery.
- 5. Increase the intake of unsaturated fats or good fat which can be found in nuts like cashew, almonds & walnuts. They are rich in omega 3 and omega fatty acids.
Foods to avoid:
- Limit the intake of fried foods and the use of saturated fats.
- Avoid carbs as they give empty calories and no nutrients.
- Try to avoid alcohol or smoking for some time especially during the treatment period. It might interfere with nutrient absorption and medicines.
- Avoid caffeinated and carbonated drinks.
