5 Food Choices That Help Curb Tobacco Cravings

Cravings have made people break their pacts, cravings have let people make their worst enemies (pizzas) run over them, cravings have made people miserable, cravings have become lifestyle for people, and the list goes on. However, the human mind is strong enough to defy cravings and become resilient, all we need is little changes and help. Prevalence of tobacco use has increased dramatically over the years due to more mental stress, but mental stress should not justify smoking. Let’s stop treating our body curtly and do something about it.

FOODS THAT HELP CURB NICOTINE CRAVINGS

  • Milk: – Studies have shown that drinking milk makes cigarettes taste horrible. When faced with a need, drinking milk and other dairy products that make cigarettes taste terrible may assist smokers avoid smoking. What’s more, milk is considered a wholesome food that provides almost all nutrients except for some like vitamin c and iron. What’s more, melatonin in milk may make you sleep like a baby, which is good for smokers as most of the cravings rise when they have trouble falling asleep.
  • Fruits and vegetables: – Nicotine hampers absorption with vitamin C, thus smokers need extra 25mg of ascorbic acid. Interestingly, studies have shown that eating fruits and vegetables not only just fills that void but also it helps with cravings to smoke. Citrus fruits, bell peppers, guava, pineapple, papaya, cauliflower, etc. are sources of vitamin C.
  • Popcorns: – When we quit something, cravings tend to rush in, and therefore it becomes imperative to find an alternative. Popcorn is high in fiber, which keeps your appetite in check and thus you feel full and makes you refrain from smoking. Snack on this nutritious and filling food whenever you feel an urge to smoke.
  • Beans: – You can’t just snack every time, therefore you must have a meal which is packed with protein and fiber. Beans such as chickpeas are a great source of both protein and fiber, and have shown to suppress appetite and thus the cigarette boxes begin to recede. However, beans can cause flatulence in some people, so it’s better to ask a healthcare professional if you are one of them.
  • Ginseng tea: – Studies have shown that having ginseng tea reduces the effect of dopamine, a neurotransmitter because of which people feel heavenly when they smoke and thus refraining from nicotine.
