5 Tips To Live Healthily With Haemophilia

Haemophilia is a disease in which there is a lack of blood-clotting protein. It is a blood disorder in which clotting happens less frequently than normal and the person tends to bleed for longer after an injury than it would normally do. The joints experience pain and hurt very often because they are weakened and are subjected to internal bleeding. There is always a high chance of injuries with this disorder and we need to be more careful.
Treatments can include clotting protein injections but as we know it can’t be cured completely. Lifestyle management can help in increasing the quality of life and reducing the risk of infections or injuries.

Some Tips to Live Healthily with Haemophilia Are:

  • What To Include- A good diet is very important in order to fulfil the requirements and to meet the loss. Including iron-rich foods can help restore the iron lost through blood and it helps in making haemoglobin, which is very crucial for carrying oxygen. They include jaggery, raisins, spinach, lean meat, etc. But for optimal absorption of iron, vitamin C is needed and can be obtained through citrus fruits like oranges and lime.
Calcium is required for good bone health and can be obtained from milk, yogurt, nuts, or broccoli. Include more foods like banana, kale, egg which give the body vitamin B for the production of red blood cells.

Whole grains and whole foods like beans and legumes are good sources of fibre, vitamins, and minerals.

  • What To Avoid- Processed, packaged foods with high sugar content can increase inflammation in the body. Avoid sugary and fizzy drinks, packaged snacks, or even foods with high amounts of preservatives. Saturated fats can be unhealthy too and increase the risk of obesity. So, opt for healthy fats like olive oil, sunflower oil, walnuts that are good for growth and development.

Also, avoid putting on any extra weight because that would increase joint pain.

  • Exercise- Physical activity or any movement will keep the blood circulating and your body healthy. Light exercises will keep the weight in check, reduce the risk of spontaneous bleeding, boost mental health and also promote healthy joints. Yoga is good for flexibility, building muscle and bone strength, and relieving symptoms.
  • Regular Check-Ups- Regular check-ups can help keep an eye on any budding infection. Keep a regular check on blood-borne diseases because people with Haemophilia are prone to more such blood diseases and infections.
  • Maintain Good Hygiene- Good hygiene in terms of both oral and physical is important as proper hygiene will reduce the risk of infections. Good oral hygiene will prevent excessive gum bleeds.

Footnote:
Informed choices are necessary to prevent any unwanted infections or injuries. Taking proper care can uplift the quality of life and relieve the symptoms.
