5 Ways To Recognize and Treat Common Eye Injuries: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Have you ever accidentally got hit by something that injured your eye? Yes, eye injuries can be caused anywhere anytime. Most commonly they occur to children while playing sports, or anyone in an accident. Some common types of eye injuries are subconjunctival hemorrhage, corneal abrasion, black or bruised eye, eye socket fracture, or detachment of the retina.

  • Scratches
  • Breaking of blood vessels
  • Foreign object
  • Chemical burns or irritation
  • Swelling due to a hit
  • Sports
  • Accident
  • Strain to the eye

Symptoms of eye injury can be vision changes, pain, swelling, bruising, redness, and bleeding, one may not be able to move their eye or even look crossed. Look for these symptoms when you feel doubt about your vision.

5 Ways To Recognize Common Eye Injuries and Their Treatment:

  • The first indication can be swelling or bruise that is visible to anyone. It can be caused when something harsh hits the eye, or when someone indulges in a fight. A cold compress can help lighten the swelling, and increase the blood flow. When the blood flow increases, the bruise will get enough blood to relax and sustain back.
  • Redness in the eye can be an indicator of a chemical burn, or irritation caused when a chemical enters the eye mistakenly. If something like this happens, you must wash your eyes with cold water to flush the chemical out immediately.
  • There can be a difficulty in vision, or focusing on objects. One object might seem large another small, or the vision can be crossed, where one pupil seems bigger and the other one small. In such cases, one must rush to an ophthalmologist to get your vision checked and operate on any possible injuries.
  • When there is bleeding in the eye, it can mean a subconjunctival hemorrhage. It is caused when a blood vessel breaks in the eye, which can be due to any reason like a normal sneeze. Contact a doctor immediately so that the treatment can start and prevent further injuries.
  • Also, when something gets in the eye like a foreign particle, there can be either pain in the eye or continuous flickering. In such a situation, you must not rub the eye but just keep blinking again and again so that the particle flows down with tears. You can also splash cold water into the eye to get the foreign object out.

Over To You:
An injury can be hazardous and cause permanent vision loss. It is important to be careful while playing sports or handling a chemical, these are some incidents that can prevent an eye injury if we are cautious.
