Mother’s Day is annually celebrated on the 2nd Sunday of May. It is marked as a special day where we can honour and celebrate our mothers. Perhaps, a day to celebrate motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in our society. Whether you’re acknowledging your beloved mom or another special woman in your life, what better way to honour her special day than motivating her to make health a priority for a healthier life. Thus, mothers of all age can take steps to live a safer and healthier life.
- 1. Nourish with a Healthy Diet – A healthy and a balanced diet is one, which provides all the nutrients in the required amounts and proper proportions. Choosing a healthy diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, whole-grains, lean sources of protein like fish and limiting the intake of foods and drinks high in calories, fat, sugar are important for good health.
- 2. Boost Vitamin D intake – Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body which are needed to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy. Adequate exposure to sunlight and including Vitamin D rich foods like egg yolks, salmon, mushrooms etc can affect the amount of Vitamin D in the body.
- 3. Take active part in physical activities – Include physical activity such as walk, yoga for at-least 30-45 minutes in your daily routine to lead a healthier life. This will help maintaining an ideal weight, lower the risk of various health problems, improves circulation and boosts immunity.
- 4. Ensure Regular check-ups – Despite being busy round the day, one should always find time to take care of oneself. In order to prevent the top threats to women’s health like heart disease, breast cancer, etc. regular check-ups are must. Monitoring on your health will certainly help you to prevent or reduce your risk of certain conditions.
- 5. Hydrate yourself well – Keeping hydrated is crucial for health and well-being. And we often overlook drinking water as a necessary part of staying healthy. Hence, one should at least drink 2-3 litres of water every day. Also, include lassi, buttermilk, green tea, lime juice, and coconut water in your daily regime.
- 6. Relax yourself with Music – Music therapy is used to aid in physical discomfort. Music upgrade mood, reduces stress and anxiety, provides relaxation, allows us to feel possibly all emotions that we experience in our lives.
- 7. Encourage Sufficient Sleep – A good night’s rest is important for people of all ages to stay in good shape. Lack of sleep can host a number of chronic diseases and conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression. It is recommended 7-8 hours of sleep every night for proper bodily functions.
