Our dietary pattern and lifestyle not only affect our health but also affects our eyesight. Right from elongated usage of the screen, not wearing sunglasses or anti glares to consumption of a poor diet- a lot of factors can disturb eye health while blurring our vision with time. Poor eye health can also create eye infections/complications like itching, irritation, redness and watery eyes. Even the slight preventive measures can save your eye from catching various infections while making your eyes shiny, glossy and healthy. Here are 7 ways on how to keep your eyes shiny and healthy, the easy and natural way.
- Take breaks from the screen: Make sure to take breaks from the screen for about 15-20 minutes after every 2 hours. This way you can ease out the strain that light puts on the eyes. Taking breaks in between cannot only provide you with relaxation but also de-stress your eyes in no time. You can also wash your eyes or do massage for effective results.
- Adjust the lighting: Adjusting the lights of your surroundings while using screens can save your eyes from stain, pain or water. Make sure to make your room brighter and lively than your screen in order to keep your eyes and vision both protected and healthy. The chances of various eye infections increase if you keep working under bad lights.
- Abide by the 20-20-20 rule: This rule says “for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, a person should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.” Due to the increased usage of the screen, our eyes can become dull and the light of the screen can affect our vision but this 20-20-20 rule can easily prevent your eyes from various eye illnesses like eye-watering, blurred vision and redness while strengthening the vision.
- Wash your eyes: If your eyes often feel dry, blurry or tired then washing your eyes helps in lubricating your eyeballs and splashes of water help in keeping your eyes feel cool and refreshed. Computer screen time or air conditioners at workplaces affect your eye surface and can cause damage to it due to dust particles, smoke, eye strain, discomfort and irritation in your eyes. Thus, maintain your eyes by washing them often and soothe and clean your eyes. Also, drinking water will help your body and eyes to keep them hydrated.
- Use anti glares: Anti Glares is the anti-reflective coating that is applied to the lens of your eyeglasses and this coating reduces the amount of glare that reflects off your lens. Use of an anti-glare lens on your eyeglasses while working on computers helps to reduce strain in eyes to focus, fatigue and clear vision. Anti-glares are very popular among office workers who have to sit on computer screens for long hours of working and are prescription glass as it is recommended by many eye specialists so that your eyes can see better.
- Snack on carrots: This crunchy vegetable is a superfood for your eyes. Carrots are a rich source of antioxidants named beta-carotene and lutein and also in zinc and Vitamin A that is essential for night and colour vision and improves eyesight. A deficiency of Vitamin A can lead to poor vision and even night blindness. Incorporate this magic eye food and eat them raw as a salad or snack or with your meals as apart from improving your vision carrots helps in maintaining digestive health, good for your heart, skin and overall health.
- Quit smoking: When you smoke, cyanide that is present in smoke enters your blood that can disturb the eye cells and further makes your eyes weak. Various studies said that the chances of developing cataracts also increase due to smoking. Not only this, but smoking can also create eye problems like dry eyes, increase the risk of macular degeneration and many others.
