Five Guilty Pleasure Foods that You Can Include In Your Diet

Guilty pleasure in simple words can be something which is enjoyed despite knowing that it is not of high regard or in the case of food, healthy. There is no such thing as bad or good food, it can be healthy or not-so-healthy. But people often find the not-so-healthy food a lot more relishing and pleasurable.

Here are a few of those ‘Guilty Pleasure’ foods that can be included in your diet:

1- Coffee- First things first, coffee! People say that it is just caffeine and bad for the body but coffee has zero calories, it’s the sugar and milk which add to the calories. Also, it has a lot of antioxidants which lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes. So, one or two cups would not do any harm. In fact, your body will pleasure it. Make sure to not have it 4-6 hours before going to bed. (tip- if you don’t want the sugar to hurt you just add some jaggery and it will bring an organic flavour too.)

2- Potatoes- Potatoes are considered to be a fat-full starchy food but are not that evil. Rich in potassium and vitamin C, they are high in fibre too. Only the toppings or way of having them can be fatty because individually they are very low in fat and calories. Have them in their traditional recipes and in moderation, they will never hurt anyone ever again. Homemade potato chips with a little salt to have in moderation with your chai or coffee will not feel like a guilty pleasure next time.

3- Popcorn- this is believed to be a lot of people’s guilty pleasure but not to be worried about while watching a movie or craving some snack. It is a whole grain and high in fibre and protein. Just take some corn kernels and put them into a little butter or oil, let them pop-pop and your snack is ready. Unflavored and air-popped popcorn is low in calories, fat and sugar.

4- Black beans: While many of us don’t like to binge on black beans due to the matter of weight gain but let us tell you that they are amazingly rich in various nutrients. Black beans are filled with protein, fibre and antioxidants which can prevent a body from cardiovascular diseases and maintain blood sugar levels as well.

5- Dark Chocolate– it looks like too many calories but can be worth it too. Chocolate is an antioxidant and the darker the chocolate, the more the antioxidants. When it is about chocolates, it’s fine to indulge in the darker side. Dark chocolates have great antioxidants that can help in reducing blood pressure levels. Various studies have suggested that dark chocolates can boost good (HDL) cholesterol levels. Consuming dark chocolates can also help you in combatting stress. The key to consuming chocolate is to have it in moderation. You can consume 2 bars once a week.
