Here’s How Excessive Consumption of Caffeine can Affect Your Health

Almost all of us rely on our morning cup of coffee to freshly start our day. Be it black, decaf or regular milk- we all believe that consumption of caffeine can easily kill the grumpiness and crankiness while boosting the mood. Well, yes, caffeine has plenty of advantages on the human body and moderate consumption can de-stress the mind, boost metabolism, gives uplift to the physical performance but excessive consumption of caffeine can do more harm to your health rather than any good. High dosage of coffee cannot only make you suffer from insomnia, high blood pressure but it also affects your digestive system which even leads to various stomach issues.

Here are some of the most common side effects of excessive consumption of caffeine.

  • Insomnia: De-stressing mind and helping individuals to stay awake is the most common quality of the coffee. An excessive dosage of caffeine makes it difficult for people to sleep early, which in turn, reduce the total time of sleep. A night of bad sleep can take a toll on your cognitive health and mood while lowering down your energy levels. Keep an eye on how much caffeine you are consuming in a day and never consume coffee 3 hours before bedtime in order to get a good night sleep.

  • Digestive issues: Coffee’s laxative effect can help in the smooth functioning of the bowel only if you are consuming a moderate quantity. The excess dose of caffeine can increase the stomach acid which can easily upset your stomach. It can affect your digestive system while leading to various health ailments like stomach-ache, bloating, gas, and burning sensations in the stomach. Also, coffee includes sweeteners and cream, all of which can distress your stomach like nothing else. Plenty of studies said that consuming more than 3-4 cups of coffee every day can even increase the heartbeat and it can easily dehydrate the body which leads to loose stools, diarrhoea and vomiting.

  • High blood pressure: Various studies said that high consumption of caffeine can raise blood pressure levels. High blood pressure can increase the risk of heart attacks and stroke while destructing the arteries. Therefore, it is extremely important to pay heed towards the dosage of caffeine, especially if you have a history of high blood pressure.

  • Anxiety: Consumption of caffeine blocks a brain chemical that is responsible for making your brain feel tired. On the other hand, it increases the hormones that boost energy. However, plenty of doses make these effects more common which can lead to anxiety, tensions and nervousness. Break your time of caffeine intake and never consume it in one go as it can easily increase the stress levels as well. If you feel uneasiness, take a look at your consumption of caffeine and try to minimise the cups of coffee in a day.

List of symptoms that show you are consuming too much caffeine.

  • Headache
  • Tiredness
  • Low energy levels
  • Less alertness
  • Low mood without any reason
  • Problems in concentration
  • Uneasiness and Irritability
