Holi Treats: Protect your Hair from Colours with these Effective Ways

Holi is the festival of great excitement and fun; people dance to the rhythm of dhols and Bollywood songs and enjoy mouth-watering Holi special delicacies.  You might save yourself from those relatives who love to play Holi and are eager to meet and greet with herbal colors but what about those naughty kids who are ready with colored water balloons in their balconies or chase you?

People might not just be satisfied with pichkaris and color sprays, so to save yourself from those unhygienic and undesirable Holi elements carrying eggs and paint, we have jotted down few tips for you which you should go through to help protect your hair:

Pre Holi Haircare tips:

  • Apply oil on your hair or go for a head massage a night before, this will help to create a barrier against the colours. You can use a combination of coconut oil, castor oil and olive oil. Dry hair gets more damaged.
  • Apply a leave-in conditioner or a serum on your hair. This will prevent your hair from getting damaged by the sun.
  • Try and avoid keeping your hair open while playing Holi. Explore hairstyles like braided ponytail or wear head bandanas to protect your hair. Open hair hold more colors and chemicals could clog your hair follicles.
  • In case you feel you have a sensitive scalp, apply a few drops of lemon juice. The citrus fruit will help to protect your scalp from any infection triggered by the toxic colours.

Post Holi Haircare tips: Don’t be too harsh with your hair, be gentle.

  • Before washing off colors from your hair, gently brush your hair to untangle them.
  • Washing off the colours with just plain water could be the simplest and first way of removing colors. This way most of the colour will come off.
  • The next step could be rinsing your hair with a mild herbal shampoo and apply conditioner.
  • Later on, to add nourishment to your hair, you can go for a nice hair mask at home or go for hair spa in saloon. Make sure to apply any hair mask after your hair is dry.
  • To make an easy and quick hair mask at home, add two tablespoons of olive oil to four tablespoons of honey and a few drops of lemon juice. Leave this mask on your hair for 20-30 minutes and rinse it off with a mild shampoo.
