New Year is just around the corner and it’s high time that you gear up for your kitchen essential items. It’s that time of the year when you prepare delicious recipes made with love for house parties and enjoy time with your loved ones. You want everything to be perfect and up-to-date. To ensure this we have prepared a list of things you can cross-check in your kitchen and give a slight kitchen makeover to keep all the necessary things in close reach for you.
- Amplify your condiments list: Spices are very essential as they add up the desired flavour to the food. When it comes to the winter season, condiments like cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, clove, turmeric, ginger, and nutmeg are vital for keeping immunity in check and help to keep you warm and cosy. Teacakes or winter tea are quite common around the New Year and spices can be added to them too for added benefits.
- Whole grains over refined grains: Having whole-grain supplies on hand is a must for stocking a winter pantry. Refined grains lose a lot of their nutrients during the production process, but whole grains retain a lot of their nutrients like B vitamins, iron, copper, and zinc, to name a few. Some great whole grains you can keep on hand for cooking are quinoa, millet, oatmeal, and buckwheat among others. These are must to have in your pantry as these will help to keep you full and energized without putting on extra weight in the winters.
- Dried fruits are a must-have: From baking to snacking, dried fruits are another one of our top pantry staples. Wondering why dried fruits are so important in winters? If you like being able to sweeten your food, then they are a great option instead of just relying on sugar. Dried fruit like pistachios, figs, dates, walnuts is great to add in cookies, porridge, salads, snack bars, yogurt, and much more. They help to build strong immunity and provide a bunch of healthy nutrients.
- Go for fresh winter produce: Spring through fall isn’t the only time you can enjoy fresh produce. There is a lot of produce to look forward to buying in every season. During the winter season, you can stock up on some favourites like oranges, grapefruits, apples, kiwi, and guava. You can also fill your pantry with vegetables like carrots, brussels sprouts, Winter squash, sweet potatoes, turnips, red beets, and broccoli, to name a few.
- Oil must be there: Do you think there is any dish is complete without the addition of oils in them? No! Right? In fact, for making salad dressings olive oil is a must to enhance its taste and flavour with keeping a close check on the quantities to be added. For making special curries and flavourful items, you can go for vegetable oil or mustard oil depending upon the requirements. Also, anything in excess can be harmful to our health and the same goes for oils.
