When we think about what all can contribute to workplace performance, we rarely give much consideration to food or our eating habits. Most of the employees are confined to their cubicles or desks for about 7-8 hours in a day, so it becomes really difficult for them to follow traditional cooking methods and food options. The foods or snacks generally available in almost any office cafeterias are laden with salt, sugar and Trans fats. This can put you at the risk of a wide array of lifestyle diseases and chronic conditions.
Time again it has been proven that unhealthy foods contribute to ill health and a reduction in job performance while consuming a well-balanced diet can significantly improve workplace productivity. Research has shown that inadequate nourishment can reduce employee’s efficiency by 20% and that poor nutrition is directly linked to absenteeism, sickness, low morale, and higher rates of workplace accidents.

So what are we supposed to do? One thing we most certainly shouldn’t do is assume that better information will motivate enough us to change. Most of us know that processed mixture of chicken bones and leftover carcasses is not a good idea but that doesn’t make chicken nuggets any less delicious. One way is to make healthy snacking a habit rather than unhealthy snacking. Place a container of mix nuts and seeds on your desk, or near your line of vision. Bring some fresh fruits or salads to the office or you can restock a bunch of fruits once a week so that you have them available throughout the week.
