We always hear about how to get fit for the wedding day but we rarely hear about the importance of keeping our bodies in shape post-wedding buzz. Weddings are probably the number one motivation to get into tip top shape you want (vacations are of course second!).
With this motivation, Brides and grooms have the capability of tackling some of their toughest and most sought after health and fitness goals. But what happens post-wedding day is what really determines your motivation and strength in staying healthy.
Here are a few tips on how to maintain your body well for a hale and hearty beginning to your new world keeping health top most priority.
- Try to cook your meals together: Take out time to prepare and cook meals together during the week. It will help to keep a check on the macros as well as build a healthy relationship bond with your spouse.
- Look for workout activities with your partner: Working out together is an easy way to strengthen your bond and burn fat at the same time. You may have different goals like wanting to build muscle and you want to lose belly fat but that doesn’t mean you can’t pick activities that achieve both goals, like HIIT workouts or even something as simple as bike riding can help you stay active. Of course! You can do your workouts too but doing it together as a team makes goals seem within reach.
- Limit your sugar and salt intake: After all the yummy food indulgence at your marriage functions, you just need to give rest to your body. Too much sugar intake can lead to sugar spikes and hence, diabetes too. Try to eat light meals like dal chawal, khichdi, or any homemade dish made with pure love.
- Balance your meals well: Couples don’t often have the same appetites. Men often want to eat more as compared to women. This can lead to ‘mirroring’ where you end up eating the same types of meals and the same amounts as your spouse. This can easily lead to eating more calories than your body requires leading to weight gain. You don’t have to make completely separate meals; instead, watch for portion size and enjoy your meals.
- Go for cheat days once a week: It’s tempting to indulge with restaurant meals once you are married. Date nights, right? Unfortunately, those high-fat, high-calorie meals can easily pack on pounds before you know it. Instead, cook 80 percent of your meals at home and the other 20 percent can be your date nights where you ‘cheat’ a little.
- Don’t forget to hydrate yourself: Water is the best medicine to flush out all the toxins out from the body. Those heavy wedding meals, spicy and junk food need to be processed out from the body, and water can really help you with that. Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water daily.
Over to you:
If you feel tired post-wedding, give yourself the much-needed rest. After all, you managed everything pretty well! But don’t put a halt on your health now, keep on doing light workouts with your partner, cook healthy meals together and balance your portion size well.
