The International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on 21 June. The word Yoga is derived from Yuj’ in Sanskrit which translates as ‘to unite’ or ‘union’. Hence, Yoga becomes a great platform to sow the seeds of bonding in the family. The ultimate foundation of the yoga practice is in fact to create a union between body and breath, between body, spirit and mind and from self to the divine consciousness.
Connection! A cherished word for human beings. Yet, the importance of the word and its meaning are slowly losing traction in today’s world of modernization and digitalization. Our connection to people, society, relations, and even to ourselves is fading away. Well, in the context of yoga, connection plays a very important role. Yoga means Unity and it therefore, helps us feel and become more connected to every aspect of life, and especially connected to the self:
- Body and Mind Synchronisation – The first and the foremost thing yoga intends to do is to unite the body, mind, and soul. Practising yoga daily makes the mind and body become more synchronized, diminishing the feeling of being exhausted, disconnected, and fragmented. Purposely connecting the mind and body through breath and posture, yoga induces a positive feeling and makes us more present-minded, focused, and energized.
- Boost Self-Love – Self-love means setting healthy boundaries for oneself and knowing what the core values are. It is a very soothing practise that requires surrender and peace. Moreover, it also acts empowering that gives us strength and courage. Practising yoga is an excellent way to reconnect with ourselves and boost our self-love. Yoga grants the time to just be ourselves and be fully present in our bodies with no judgments. It gives us the time to care for ourselves deeply in mind, body, and soul.
- De-stressing – An individual’s true being is often buried under stress, depression, anxiety, and other temporary mental states. These life hacks get so thick that it completely erases the understood self and replaces it with something unpleasant and unfamiliar. Perhaps, yoga helps to clean up hacks, and continuing regular yoga sessions can remove them totally. In this way, negative emotions will not be able to distort the sense of self with any permanence.
- Connect with Positive People – Yoga is an opportunity to form a connection with people specifically, people with whom we share common interests, values, and experiences. Yoga is a spring that can bring communities across the globe together, sharing the same platforms and practices and working on building positive relationships with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.
Over to you:
This Yoga day reconnect with yourself and indulge in the practise of yoga that brings more awareness, gives ability and strength, and finally, gives life and meaning to an individual.
