When it is about skincare, many beauty aficionados go by the line “more and more”- the more layers of serums and skincare routine you apply, the more glow you will get. However, just like excess of anything always backfires gradually, usage of excessive skincare products can destroy your skin in multiple ways. Enter, Skinimalism, the latest trend that has gained much momentum recently in the beauty industry that can ease out that load of skincare products from your shoulder, a perfect saviour of our bank balances. Having said that, this trend is all about dumping a complicated multi-layered skincare routine that includes chemical-filled products and choosing a minimal yet effective skincare routine.
What is it?
According to Dr Taruna Yadav, senior Ayurveda expert at Forest Essentials, the concept of skinimalism is when skincare meets minimalism to create a canvas that looks luminous and healthy. “Since make-up sits on the skin for the day, it is important to select products that are free of chemicals such as parabens, phthalates, PEGs and synthetic fragrances, all linked to harmful health effects, such as hormone disruption, cancer and skin irritation,” says Dr Yadav.
The reason behind the attraction of this trend is forgetting about the fantasies of perfect skin and accepting flaws and imperfections. We all know that perfect skin is a myth. Right from spots, acne to large pores- everyone has imperfections and women should accept it. Loading up your skin with active after active chemical-filled skincare items might give temporary results on the skin but it will catch the side effects later or sooner. Tanvi Malik, co-founder, Indya Skin Care said “Skinimalism is the need of the hour because it finally deconstructs extensive skin care regimes and brings sense and sustainability back to skincare. The idea is to embrace the little imperfections and focus on one key problem to attain healthier skin.” The basic idea is to create a skincare regime that will perfectly suit your skin, works wonderfully without the hassle of high maintenance.
Skinimalism Routine
Skinimalism skincare routine only contains the usage of just four products—cleanser, serum, moisturiser and sunscreen. Make sure that you first understand your skin type and then find the accurate ingredients as per it. Make sure to take mild cleansers and start washing your face twice a day. A hydrating cleanser along with a lightweight non-greasy moisturiser is a must. Serums are quite beneficial for your skin and using active ingredients as per your skin type will assist in fighting dark spots, tanning or ageing signs. Try to include skincare ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, petroleum or coconut oil.
