Suffering from Digital Eye Strain While Staying at Home? Here’s What You Can Do

From sitting ideally and scrolling the fingers on the phone to binge-watch your much-loved movies and shows to long sitting hours of work from home- the lockdown has amplified the exposure to the screen than ever before. Elongated usage of screen time not only contribute to various eye problems like itching, irritation, redness and watering but also make the eyes weak and dull. To make your eyes shiny and healthy and less vulnerable to infections, reducing the screen time is extremely vital but you can also add some quickies to your lifestyle to radiantly shine your eyes.

Prolonged usage of gadgets and phones not only take a toll on your eye health but it also leads to various health issues like sleep deprivation, neck and back pain and headaches. Try to keep a check on your screen time to boost your overall health and well-being and to decrease the complications associated with it.

Here are some easy to ways you can abide by to keep your eyes healthy and to avoid the digital eye strain and its technical hitches.

  • Take breaks: Taking a break from a screen for 15-20 minutes after every 2 hours is a great way to prevent your eyes from strain and to reduce the redness and irritation in the eyes. Taking breaks and closing your eyes for some time not only provide relaxation to your eyes but also de-stress you in no time. You can also massage your eyes for some time to relax your muscles or you can get up from your place and wash your eyes from cold water every two hours to soothe your eyes.

  • Abide by the 20-20-20 rule: Watching the screens of phones, computer or tablets for long hours can make your eyes dull and exhausted and this 20-20-20 rule can become your eye saver both at home or at work.  The rule says “for every 20 minutes spent looking at a screen, a person should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.” This way you can give your eyes much-needed breaks from the screen time while preventing it from various problems like eye-watering, blurred vision and redness.

  • Adjust the lighting: While using the screen, make sure that you do some changes in the lightings of your room and make it bright and lively so that your eyes won’t strain much. Always keep in mind to make your surroundings brighter than your device to keep your eyes safe and sound. Bad light of the room can not only put a strain on your eyes but also lead to declining vision and also takes you closer to various other eye infections and complications.

  • Eat a healthy diet: There is nothing better than to eat a healthy and nutritious diet to keep your eyes safe.  Nuts like almonds, walnuts, fatty fishes like tuna and salmon and fruits and vegetables like carrot, spinach, sweet potatoes and citrus rich fruits are rich in beta-carotene which is great for the eye health. Adding such foods in your diet is a great way to boost your eye health and overall well-being while reducing the risk of various health and eye problems.
