Around us, many appearance-conscious individuals are avidly looking for cosmetics and ways to make sure they look young, not very aged, and always remain good-looking. Skin is an indicator of our overall health; hence radiant skin is directly linked with how our body’s health is at present. A holistic approach is necessary if one wants to maintain your skin conditions which depend on factors such as skincare products, your diet, and your lifestyle choices. In a skincare routine, affordable care can be made by correct food choices. This will help you enhance your appearance as well as help you maintain it. Changes that one can implement in their daily diet for glowing and radiant skin are –
- Avoid or limit processed foods and swap them with natural and healthier food items – Items that fall under the category of processed foods include processed dairy including cheese, vegetable oil, snacks such as crackers, readymade heating food packets, and processed meat. There are also items such as cakes, white bread, pasta, and white rice. These increase our blood sugar levels which leads to fine lines and wrinkles. Processed food should be swapped with whole wheat, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and bulgur.
- Swap refined sugar with fruits or natural honey – Blood sugar spikes affect our skin’s collagen and elastin production which leads to our skin losing its softness and suppleness. Refined sugar rapidly spikes blood sugar levels and increases inflammation which leads to premature skin aging. To slow down aging and preserve skin’s radiance, it is better to consume food products which are having their natural sweetness such as bananas, apples, citrus fruits, and even dark chocolate. They contain antioxidants that boost skin repair and water, fiber, and vitamins. This will improve skin hydration and retain your looks.
- Swap fried foods with healthy fats – Greasy and fried foods are detrimental for our skin as they lead to acne breakouts and extra oily skin. They may also lead to skin inflammation and skin aging. They can be replaced with foods rich in healthy fats such as the ones found in olive oil, coconut oil, nut oil. Consumables include dry fruits and nuts which are also rich in omega 3 fatty acid which promotes lustrous and radiant skin.
- Swap caffeinated coffee and tea with milder drinks such as green tea – Generally available coffee is very rich in caffeine which leads to dull, dehydrated skin. It also leads to acne breakouts. It can be replaced by green tea which has less caffeine and also antioxidants which will promote your skin repair and maintain a radiant glow on it.
