Winters mean Christmas which no doubt is a joyous occasion. The Christmas tree and all the music is a joyous experience. However realistically winter also invites melancholy. After the Christmas tree is put to the ground and the decorations in the boxes for next winter, the environment becomes depressing and you may become a victim of the winter blues. But worry not because we have some tips that may help you avoid having any winter blues and keep you glowing as if the Christmas tree was never put down.

What happens during winter and why?
You’re more tired these days, maybe anxious or moody. It’s harder to get out of bed, and when you do, your mood resembles the landscape you see — cold, dark, and nasty. This happens due to sudden changes in the mood because of the sudden change in the environment, from joyous to monotonous.

Tips to manage your winter blues.

  • Exercise Bundle up for a walk, swim indoors, or head to the gym. Exercise can work as well as antidepressants. Get your blood flowing, exercising, and focusing on developing your body could be a great distraction from all the melancholy and will eventually help you keep a positive mindset.
  • Deficiency of vitamin D, a nutrient linked to sharper thinking and better emotional health. So get outdoors and do your exercises to maintain a healthy amount of vitamin D.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Fruits and veggies of deep green or orange, like broccoli, kale, and carrots, have nutrients that promote better mood and total health.
  • Stimulate your senses. Working on your outlook will provide confidence to go out and make you energetic and filled with enthusiasm.
  • Nurture your spirit Slow down and curl up in a cosy chair with a good book or write in your journal.

Winter invites winter blues and various levels of depression. This may be due to the fact of a sudden change in the environment, from all Christmas joy to sudden loneliness. This happens to the best of us and is nothing to be frowned upon. However, we can control or even avoid having any winter blues by engaging in some activities, eating healthy, creating a healthy diversion like hitting the gym 6 days a week.
