The skin responds very differently to season changes, as the winters approach the skin tends to get drier and flakier as compared to summers, this is due to various reasons like colder and more dry air (especially indoors), low levels of humidity are all things that come with harsh winters and therefore are the reason for fewer moisture levels of the skin and body. It affects most of the exposed skin like our face, hands, feet, etc. Some signs of dry skin are flakiness, redness, rough texture, irritated skin, stinging, or a burning sensation or cracks in the skin. There is a medical term for dry skin known as xerosis which can vary in severity. Dry skin may be inevitable during the winters, but with a good skincare and self-care regime, it might be easy to fight off many of the problems that might arise due to the conditions. Here are some tips to prevent moisture riddance, and give a more soothing, healing skin with less dryness this winter-
- Moisturizing
One of the most basic and important steps is to always moisturize, after any wash the body gets stripped of its natural oils and may lead to extra dryness, therefore moisturizing your body is needed. - Applying Sunscreen
A lot of people assume that winters mean less exposure to the sun and therefore no requirement for sunscreen but that is where they are wrong, even if you are tempted to not use sunscreen during this season, it should still be a part of your routine. The UV rays from the sun are still present and direct exposure can stress out the skin moisture barrier which maintains the overall balance and moisture of the skin. - Using healthy overnight care
They are known to be an excellent way to revitalize the skin or any damage done to it. Emollients are known to be great for moisturizing, they are known to be a heavier kind of creams that takes more time to get absorbed and therefore work wonders overnight and replenish the skin with moisture and oils. - Adjusting skincare routine accordingly
If you are known to have more sensitive skin or get irritated skin easily in the winters make sure to keep in mind your skin type when doing skincare and go for simpler and more natural skincare. Your skin needs to be healthy to be able to respond well to treatments like serums, toners, or any other types of beauty treatments. Beware of any kind of irritants.
