With every weather our diet changes! We have to make necessary lifestyle advances to get accustomed to the season. Since winter has already arrived, one has to be more cautious with health. Jackets, sweaters, winter caps & gloves protect our body from the chill spell, but certain foods and drinks keep our body warm from within. Hot beverages are a blessing in the winter season. Warm soothing infusions give such a respite from the cold weather. Tea & coffee being popular among the lot! But there are more healthy low calorie drinks to explore which you can make with easy available ingredients in your pantry:
Turmeric milk – This age old grandma’s drink is a ‘super golden drink’. Along with keeping our body warm it has several benefits. It is antiviral & has antioxidants properties. It contains curcumin which is a natural antioxidant. Use low fat milk and reap the benefits of a traditional health drink
Warm lemon water- Lemon being a natural source of Vitamin C that boosts immunity. Drinking warm lemon water keeps the body temperature balanced and releases toxins from the body.
Nut milk – Nuts & dry fruits are plant based and contain super power nutrients. Tasty almond milk is one such popular drink in winters. Prepared with a lot of love and patience it needs to be heated to bring the milk to half along with powdered almonds, saffron & cardamom. Add jaggery instead of sugar to lower the calorie content. You can add a twist by adding coconut oil and garnish with crushed walnut, raisins & figs, to make this milk more tasty.
Kadhas(Kawah) – Kadhas are very famous in our Indian household. It’s nothing but herb infused hot water. Cinnamon being a common spice is used to prepare this drink. It has medicinal properties that keeps your body warm and prevents infections. You can have it plain or add ginger, basil leaves, black pepper, cardamom & honey . Sum this stimulant with apple or orange slices as it is a great source of vitamin c that helps fight infections.
