Do we all want to travel around the globe? Of course, who doesn’t love to tour and visit beautiful unexplored destinations? Be it a luxurious trip or camping off-sites, we usually let our hair down when we are outdoors. Travelling doesn’t mean that you compromise on your health and eat whatever is available. If you are a travel enthusiast and exploring new destinations is your hobby but find it difficult to sustain your health routine, here are some simple ways to cope up with your wellbeing while enjoying your trip:
1- Routine exercise – Starting your day with simple exercises like 5 mins warm-up, stretching and some deep breathing will keep you active throughout the day. Take morning walks on the lawn or nearby parks. Revel in the fresh air and morning scenic beauty. You can explore the local places on foot and burn up your calories. Ditch the vacation lethargies and take stairs instead of lifts for good cardio. The more you are on your feet the more energetic you will feel.
2- Eat a heavy breakfast – Never leave your hotel room without having breakfast. If you have to visit tourist sites or go trekking, pump up your body with some healthy food to boost your metabolism. You can opt for brunch that will keep you going the entire day.
3- Monitor your eating – Restaurant meals are so tempting that one cannot stay without relishing them. But if you want to avoid gaining extra calories on your trip, choose healthy meals like salads, soups, eggs, meat and avoid having food that is creamy or has cheese. Aerated drinks will quench your thirst but will make you feel bloated. Refrain from having sweet exotic cocktails instead have coconut water or fresh juices.
4- Energy snack –If you are on a road trip, munching junk will only cause harm. Have energy bars that will sort your hunger pangs like protein granola bars that are loaded with nuts & seeds. Eat fruits that will refresh you and satiate your hunger.
5- Enjoy adventure – Trekking, cycling, hiking, zip-lining, rock climbing, water sports, parachute gliding, etc., are some of the activities that will surely burn your calories and give you the thrill for good!
6- Water your friend – Sipping water in between your sightseeing will keep you hydrated and also control your appetite. Continue with your daily target of consuming 3-4 litres of water.
7- Carry home-cooked ready to eat food – Remember how our moms used to carry meals while travelling and we used to throw tantrums to have outside food. Now we actually understand the reason behind it was to maintain our health. Travelling means change of destination, food, climate and the environment that can lead to fluctuations in our body. To help the body cope with the changes, along with dining out it is advised to consume some home-cooked foods whenever possible like low cal multigrain theplas, no-sugar gluten-free ladoos, dry fruits, roasted makhanas, poha chivda, whole wheat methi khakra, fruits, non-fat yoghurt, oatmeal, whole-grain pretzels etc.
So don’t let your healthy eating go out of the window! Travelling doesn’t mean you need to go back in reverse gear and then work again on your weight & health. Live in the moment and watch out for your fitness.
Have fun and enjoy all your trips!
