Effective tips to beat holiday blues

Planning a holiday is exhausting. Concluding on a perfect itinerary might lead to anxiety among many travellers. For frequent holidaymakers packing unpacking can be very stressful. Some might feel homesick and others don’t want their vacation to come to an end. They find it difficult to adjust to their routine schedule after coming back.

Holiday blues are emotions not only for the ones who are travelling with friends & family but also for those who go on solo trips or can’t plan any holiday due to budget constraints. Change in environment, diet and sleep schedule leads to mixed feelings.

So how can one cope with anxiety, depression, stress or sadness?

Firstly, stop worrying about these holiday blues and secondly follow these effective tips –

1- Continue with your normal routine – Don’t change your schedule. Stick to a regime of eating, sleeping, waking up & exercising.

2- Keep it real – Set real holiday goals. Don’t have high expectations from the places you visit. Make a list of activities and keep it flexible.

3- Budget-friendly – If you want to enjoy your trip and feel that you don’t have the budget, try to break the trip into parts. Look out for economical hotels that offer all meal plans and find reasonable ways to travel. Join local tourist groups that arrange low-cost trips.

4- Finding company – If you can’t find a travel partner, again lookout for local tourist groups. It’s safe and convenient to go on long trips when you have company. Reach out to friends and family as travelling together will reduce the cost per head.

5- Follow healthy habits – Eat nutritious food & drink fewer calories when outdoors. Don’t get carried away with guzzling alcohol. You don’t want to fall sick or be inactive on your trip. The guilt of not enjoying the trip due to sickness or hangover will stay forever.

6- Family time – Staycation is the best time to get out of your hectic work schedule and enjoy family time. It will clear all your stress and give you a good break.

7- Find means to relax – Listen to good music, read a book, go for a walk, do yoga, meditation, swimming or just lie down on the lawn and enjoy good weather. Keep aside your phone and don’t watch TV.

8- Gratitude journal – After coming from holidays, write your experience and thank the universe for helping arrange your vacation. Write down your thoughts and feelings. Make a list of things you did and those that will be carried forward to the next trip.

9- Advance planning – Any trip that is planned on short notice will create a lot of doubts in your mind and lead to stress. To plan your trip minutely, analyze and arrange everything well in advance. Set a fixed time of the year for travelling to enable detailing. Involve family or friends, as more the merrier!

10- Create memories – Trips come to an end but memories last forever! The best way to reflect upon your excursion is by clicking pictures. Set back and cherish beautiful moments spent on your holiday. Whenever you feel low or not able to plan a vacay, go through old travel albums and look forward to your next!
