First and foremost it is a valid identity and not a ‘phase’. Gender Fluidity is the deep sense of one’s identity, gender, against the conventional bifurcation of just male and female.
Experts say that gender is not only based on your birth but it is also connected to how you see yourself and how other people see you. If you feel comfortable with your birth gender then you fall in the category of ‘cisgender’, however, if you feel uncomfortable with your birth gender then you fall under the category of ‘transgender’ or ‘gender uncomfortable’. It is mainly dependent upon how you see yourself and if you are comfortable with the gender assigned to you irrespective of chromosome and physical attributes. The common term associated with this is ‘nonbinary’. Many gender-fluid people represent themselves as nonbinary, some other terms include genderqueer, agender, bigender, and more.
Gender fluidity is a vast concept as many people develop their perspective about gender Fluidity including gender fluid people. The various perspectives could be, masculinity, femininity, sexual experience, or even self-concept. It is solely dependent upon the person’s perspective of how he/she/zie/MX sees herself and with which gender will he/she/zie/MX feel comfortable. Another important factor of gender Fluidity is “time”. With time gender Fluidity may run its course which may take days, months, or even years, because eventually it’s all about feeling comfortable with your representation to the society, and because of this valid reason it cannot be considered as a ‘phase’. An important thing to note is to use the correct pronouns when indicating them, some may feel uncomfortable with he/she, they, etc, what would be more suitable is if we use pronouns like “zie” or “MX.”
The main problem of this concept is that people all around the world may be non-binary or transgender but they simply don’t know that yet and are prone to ignorance. People’s discomfort cannot be measured and can only be felt, however, that is only possible when they speak up and for that, they need a proper set of guidance and knowledge to know in which category do they belong. Even when people do start to realize that they are uncomfortable they fail to identify themselves due to numerous reasons the main one being lack of knowledge, they simply don’t know in which category do that fall, cisgender, transgender, binary, nonbinary it gets hard.
Over to you:
There is a world ahead of just 2 conventional genders and there are people all around the world who belong in this. Gender Fluidity is solely dependent upon how the person feels about the perspective of society and the personal comfort of representing themselves. Gender Fluidity is also time-based as self-realization and identifying one’s true self takes time. During this time it is important to use the correct set of pronouns to identify them for their comfort. Keeping all this in mind, there are still a lot of people who still don’t even realize their place in society due to lack of knowledge and hence fail to identify themselves and get stuck in perpetual discomfort.
