Here are Some Side Effects of Dengue That May Last After Recovery

Even during the Covid phase, dengue remains to be one of the most worrying infections of the year with the rise in viral infections and emergence of a strain, dengue is a terrible infection to face, as it leads to the weakening of the body. It leads to problems like platelet loss and can lead to dengue shock syndrome called DSS. The rate of mortality is less yet it is quite concerning.
Some of the side effects that can still be present post-dengue and affect recovery-
Extreme weakness and poor immunity
This viral infection, earmarked with a fever, which is quite often known as a breakbone fever, majorly due to heavy inflammation and platelet loss can lead to weakness. Fatigue and weakness can be quite tough to deal with, it leaves the immune system shattering, increasing the risks of frequent infections.
Hair fall
Although there can be many underlying causes for hair fall, dengue infection can lead to hair loss as well, people who are often recovering from dengue complain of excessive hair loss, and this hair loss can last up to a month or two, after an acute interaction with the infection. In some cases, a few may also develop a condition called alopecia or hair fall in the form of small patches which can be due to medications, metabolic or hormonal stress.
Muscle and Joint Pain
Joint and muscle pain is a major symptom of dengue infection, two of the conditions called polyarthralgia, which is a kind of joint pain, and myalgia, muscle pain can be present in the body for several days, which can be due to the inflammation present in the body. Illness can make the body weak and sedentary, exercising muscles and joints can become quite tough.
Appetite loss and deficiency
Your digestive system gets hit the most post dengue, during the recovery phase, and after many side effects including fever and weakness, it makes it difficult for you to eat meals properly leading to problems like nutritional deficiencies, which is why it is suggested that patients focus on ensuring proper fluid intake and have nourishing food that is easily digestible and light on the body while providing the necessities for the body.
Weight loss
Extreme weight loss impacts the metabolism of the body leading to a sudden weight drop at such times it is important to maintain weight, including food, and recover from nutritional deficiencies.

It is important to achieve normalcy after dengue but it is also important to rest and heal yourself, if you are not careful post dengue, it may lead to more pain, aches, weaknesses, and infections and worsen the health.
