The spike in the case of covid-19 variants has raised an alarm worldwide. The most dominant variant, omicron is continuously on a surge and there’s no normal life anytime soon. Amidst all the stress and tension, one thing that is giving a ray of hope is a good recovery rate. India Logs Over 3 Lakh Covid Cases, Positivity Rate Surge To 20.75%.
Here are some latest highlights:
- The cases have continued to rise over 3 lakh for the fifth day in a row. There was a decline in covid cases in India this Sunday. But 306,064 new cases have been registered in the last 24 hours.
- It has also been noticed that 60% of the patients were either not vaccinated or had received only one dose.
- The number of active cases right now is 22,49,335, driven by the Omicron. The daily positivity rate was 17.73 yesterday and has shown a surge to 20.75%.
- It has been recorded that more than 27 lakh doses of vaccines have been given in the last 24 hours making a cumulative total of more than 1.62 billion doses nationwide.
- The data update at 8 am stated that there has been a rise in the death toll to 4,89,848.
Shockingly, the Omicron-driven cases will be the highest near February 6 and likely to peak in the next 14 days, says a study conducted by the Indian Institue of Technology Madras.
Maharashtra is toping the Covid-19 chart with 40,000 cases and 1,42,115 deaths. Kerela has reported over 45,000 rates with a positivity rate of 45%. Whereas Karnataka has over 3.75 lakh active cases with a 23% positivity rate. In the national capital, Delhi, there has been a significant decline to almost half, from 30.64% to 16.36%.
The Health Ministry has asked States to take preparatory measures and regular monitoring seeing the increased Covid-19 cases. Various buildings including hotel rooms have also been converted to Covid Care Centres by the states for mild or less-symptomatic cases. There should be full availability of testing kits and a good supply of medications and drugs.
It is necessary that we still take the precautions and guidelines very seriously. Wearing masks, avoiding public gatherings or places, preferring work from home are some steps that can be taken to control the surge.

The spread of the Omicron variant can be curtailed: our health is in our own hands. Get vaccinated, mask up, wash hands regularly, don’t move out unless required, if you have symptoms isolate yourself immediately and get yourself tested. Do as advised by your medical practitioner.
