As per the Union Health Ministry, India reports over 3.14 lakh COVID cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day surge making the total caseload stands at 2291428. India also reported 2,104 more deaths due to the virus with the maximum deaths being reported from Maharashtra at 568, followed by Delhi at 249.
The top five states that have been continuously seeing the highest spike in the covid cases are Maharashtra with 67468 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 33106 cases, Delhi with 24638 cases, Karnataka with 23558 cases and Kerala with 22414 cases. Maharashtra is one of the highest numbers of cases and is taking strict additional actions to restrict the spread of the virus. Maharashtra government has announced strict restrictions and new guidelines for offices, marriages and travel. Goa will also impose a night curfew till 30th April in order to tackle the pandemic.
A lot of states are facing a shortage of oxygen but as per PM Modi, both the state government and private sector are closely working on the issue to increase the supply of oxygen and the number of beds for Covid patients. Recently, The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Centre to forthwith provide oxygen by whatever means to the hospitals in the national capital which are treating serious COVID-19 patients and are facing scarcity of oxygen.
Meanwhile, a population of over 132 million got vaccinated with the first dosage of coronavirus vaccine and the government announced that the vaccination drive will be open for all citizens above the age of 18 years from May 1 onwards.
Director of AIIMS, Dr Randeep Guleria said that vaccination does not prevent the virus and it will only work towards building your immunity. A lot of people believe that vaccination will save them from getting the virus but this is a complete myth. Following the safety protocols even after getting the vaccination is the key to safeguard your health. People are tested positive even after getting their vaccination doses and there could be various reasons for this.
Here are some reasons why people are testing positive even after getting the vaccination:
- Not following the safety protocols such as wearing masks, hand sanitization and are not maintaining social distancing.
- Not following the rules of post-vaccination as communicated by the doctors
- Not getting the proper doses. (Some people are not taking their second doses on time)
- A completely blocked immunity
