Ministry of AYUSH Issued Dietary Tips for Self-care While Staying at Home

The Covid crisis has made us understand the importance of immunity and a nutritious diet. With the escalating cases and the intense crisis across India, the importance of a healthy and well-balanced diet is being pinpointed again and again. Health ministries and doctors have advised people to take up precautions to decrease the risk of catching this virus. While the health experts and fitness enthusiasts stressed consuming a naturally healthy and well-balanced diet in order to strengthen the immune system, AYUSH Ministry has recently issued a list of fresh guidelines that solely emphasise self-care and home management of COVID-19
.
As per an official media release by AYUSH Ministry, “These guidelines for COVID-19 Patients in Home Isolation and Preventive Measures for self-care are based on leads from classical Ayurveda and Unani texts, the outcome of research studies, Report and Recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Committee and which will further strengthen our fight in combating COVID-19 in the emerging situation.”

The guidelines issued by the Ministry assist in spreading awareness among the people about effective home care solutions and recommended AYUSH practices. It also helps in boosting the immunity and save them from severe symptoms. Following guidelines will help in managing the prophylactic, Asymptomatic and Mild cases of COVID-19 during home isolation.

In addition to recommending Ayurvedic medicines while suffering from Covid-19 and being in home isolation, the ministry also put the light on a few dietary practices that should definitely be a part of a person’s lifestyle to boost overall well-being. Here are 6 general dietary guidelines that you should definitely practise at home:

  • Drink warm water
  • Healthy concoctions (water boiled with natural herbs like saunth, dhania, Tulsi or jeera).
  • Make sure to consume fresh food
  • Food should be easily digestible.
  • Incorporate golden milk (haldi-doodh) into your diet (once at night). Half a teaspoon of Haldi mixed well in 150ml hot milk. If you are suffering from indigestion, then avoid this drink.
  • Indian spices like haldi, jeera, dhania, sauth and garlic should be a part of your daily cooking.
  • Make sure to add amla (or amla products) to your daily diet.
  • If you are experiencing cough or throat problems, then clove or mulethi powder, mixed with honey (or any natural sugar) can be taken 2-3 times a day.

If you are suffering from mild symptoms of Covid and are under self-isolation then make sure to follow the guidelines and consume all the medicines prescribed by the doctor. These remedies or recommendations are the precautions to boost your immunity and to decrease the risk of getting the coronavirus. Make sure to seek the advice of a health expert if your symptoms get worse during home isolation.
