The pandemic was far from over and the Omicron hit is making this pandemic even worse. Omicron is a variant of Covid after alpha, beta, and delta and is spreading around the world way more rapidly than estimated. Omicron is declared as the dominant variant of covid-19 by the health ministry. When asked by WHO “will everyone get infected with omicron?” Here’s what WHO said:
- The World Health Organisation’s technical leads have said that ‘this variant is effectively transmitted between people’ and we should remain cautious.
- Omicron is said to be less severe than Delta but can lead to a spectrum of diseases as it has been seen in the previous strains.
- Many queries have been raised asking the WHO why people are still ending up in hospitals and a technical lead has replied, the infected people have a full spectrum of diseases from asymptomatic to severe infections and diseases leading to deaths.
- People who have not been vaccinated, people who have severe underlying diseases, people with advanced age, can have a severe infection from the Omicron.
- Omicron is overtaking Delta in terms of circulation, and it is very efficiently transmitted between people, said a lead from WHO.
- It is also been noted that even if the cases were high but still not everybody will get Omicron.
- Stress is given to vaccination against Covid-19 but it is only protective against severe disease and death and does not prevent some infections and onward transmission.
As per a source “the US is approaching the threshold of transitioning to living with the coronavirus as a manageable disease. And it is said by a top US scientist that Omicron will ultimately find everybody with it extraordinary.”
The available Covid-19 vaccines might be less effective against Omicron Transmission and thus carries a higher risk of infection, said the UN Health Agency. The United States is at the top currently and India is at the second spot in the chart for Coronavirus cases. The increase in the number of cases can solely show how dangerous this variant is. And it is not to be taken lightly, all the precautions shall always be maintained, whether vaccinated or not. Proper management of this ‘disease’ and careful precautions can still help eradicate the variant from all around the world.

We should continue to wear masks and stay indoors as much as possible. Working from home should be preferred and social distancing if stepping out should be practised in order to keep the health fit and fine.
