5 Foods That Can Worsen Stomach Pain

We all suffer from stomach pain and problems at some point in time. When mucosal cells in the lining of the stomach are swollen or inflamed, it creates a burning sensation, irritation in the stomach and it can even lead to other various stomach problems as well. Various foods create acids in the stomach that can lead to an upset stomach and can worsen the condition of an upset stomach. Avoiding upset stomach is just a matter of some lifestyle changes- start with eating smaller, light and healthy meals, less spicy food and limit the intake of processed and packaged foods so that your body can easily digest it and it won’t create any problems in your stomach.
Here are some of the foods that can make your stomach unhappy and can create or worsen various problems like gas, bloating, burning, indigestion and constipation.
- Citrus fruits: Citrus rich foods like oranges, lemons, grapefruits and amla are considered good for the health but to settle an upset stomach, try to avoid such foods as they are filled with acids and can cause acid reflux. When you are trying to solve the problem of an upset stomach, avoid such foods and stick to light and cooked vegetables, chilled home-made drinks with no or less sugar. Cooked, light and healthy foods are easy to digest and relief your stomach from any kind of pain.
- Spicy foods: Red and green chillies, black pepper, jalapenos and other types of hot spices can make your food taste delicious but sometimes at the cost of a bad and upset stomach. Spices rich foods are not easy to digest as they are high in chemical compounds and can worsen the condition of an upset stomach while causing mouth ulcers. So, avoid such foods and stick to natural herbs when treating the upset stomach.
- Fried foods: Snacking on fried foods is never a great option- even when you don’t have any stomach related problems. These are filled with oil and fat which makes it harder to digest and can create more problems to an already upset stomach. Apart from this, excessive consumption of fried foods can increase the risk of various health ailments and is not good for the skin as well. So, think twice before consuming such foods.
- Soda: The bubbles in soda look fascinating and soothe the taste buds but actually it can create problems in the stomach by trapping gas into the digestive system. The lots of sugary content it contains can easily hit your stomach pain harder and can lead to various other problems as well. Little sips of a flat soda might work to treat an upset stomach but keep an eye on its consumption.
